What a weekend!

Sunday morning at Marlboro

It is Sunday morning, and we are not at church because rain is forecast and the service is being held inside for the few, and being streamed for others. We can watch it later. So we are at Marlboro for the final rehearsal before today's concert. We are hearing a Beethoven String Quartet, Op. 132 and Kurtag, Bagatelles. Op. 14/d. Michael Schoeck (Katie's cousin) and his partner, Amy are with us. They were with us much of yesterday also - they are staying in an AirBnB in Keene and came over for the Farmer's Market yesterday and then came to the house. John and Cynthia were unable to join us yesterday but did come over Friday evening and had supper with Katie and me while Ellen went to her sister's for a pot-luck supper and a sing. Katie arrived Thursday afternoon and we had supper at the Brattleboro Food Truck Roundup at the Retreat - a perfect thing to do - Katie loved it. So it has been a very full time. It has also been warmer than usual, which has been hard on Ellen, and John too. But it has been good to have Katie here. Michael and Amy have recently bought a cabin in the Catskills and we have heard all about that. We hope to visit them there in the fall.

Later:

We are now hearing the Kurtag, Bagatelles, with Marina Piccinini, flute. Ms. Piccinini is 53 years old - she doesn't look it. "Widely recognized as one of the world's leading flute virtuosos, flutist MARINA PICCININI combines flawless technical command, profound interpretive instincts, and a charismatic stage presence—qualities which make each of her performances a memorable event." She has studied with the composer of this piece here at Marlboro in the past. We are so fortunate to be hearing her!

Later:
We had lunch at the Chelsea Diner, it started raining, we drove home through heavy rain, but it was dry at the the house. We watched some old videos, and then played a card game called PHASE TEN, which was fun - Katie brought it. Amy and Michael have headed back to Queens and we just had a supper of leftovers.
