Holy Week

This is such a special week, particularly under the circumstances. The great drama of life and death. For us, it has involved a lot of music. Palm Sunday the Dummerston choir sang, and both the choir and the congregation really enjoyed the music. I wish I could share it here. Then Monday evening, the choir rehearsed for Easter and that was a very full rehearsal because we are singing five pieces, including Handel's Hallelujah Chorus and William Billings' Easter  Anthem. We rehearsed at the home of Bill Maravelle, an elderly and somewhat home-bound retired minister who used to sing with us, and loves having us rehearse in his living room. Tuesday night was our River Singers rehearsal  -  our last one for a while. It was particularly fine. Then Wednesday we had a Hallowell sing for Joan, who is close to death. Four of us went to her home, a single-wide, tucked away in the hills, and found her there with her son, who is very devoted and loving - one of four sons. We had a very lovely, quiet sing for her. Then that evening we rehearsed Handel's Samson - again our last for a while. I feel I know the music pretty well. Tonight is Maundy Thursday and I am both singing and reading. Tomorrow we will be in the Good Friday service choir - an ecumenical service based on the seven last words of Christ from the cross - seven little sermons by seven different local pastors, interspersed with anthems. Friday eve we'll have supper with John and Cynthia. Saturday we are having a Seder with the Feinland clan at Pathways. Then Sunday I will lead the music at a Sunrise service in Guilford and the regular service in Dummerston. Sunday afternoon we'll have dinner with Katie and Savanna. Monday we take off by car for our trip to Boulder!

In between I've been working on taxes - not just this year but 2013 too - I discovered a fairly big mistake and had to submit an amended form! Sigh! But Jesus drove the money changers out of the temple during this week, so it sort of fits. I guess.
