Day 2 of our trip

Day Two got off to a bad start. The cell phone was charging in our motel room and accidently fell off the counter onto a tile floor and the screen shattered. Fortunately, it still works, and we put on some duct tape to help hold it together, but we'll have to get a new phone. So that was sad. However, we had a nice breakfast in a nearby Waffle House and that helped restore our spirits. We started out on I-90, went past Cleveland. dropped down through Oberlin and got on to U.S. 20 - a familiar route for us. But then we hit a series of detours, due to road construction, and they took us out of our way several times. We saw new Ohio farm country, but lost time. Finally, at Nappanee, IN, we decided to go back up to I-90. We called Maggie and Jerry to let them know we wouldn't get to Bartlett until 7p.m., and turned things over to our iPhone GPS and let Siri lead us through the maze of south Chicago intertwined interstate highways. We would have nailed the 7pm ETA, but Ellen had to make a very quick lane shift to get on to I-290 from I-294 and a car blocked her and we had to take a longer route to Bartlett. So we arrived at 7:20pm. Not too bad, all things considered. It was wonderful to see Maggie and Jerry again - it has been almost two years. We talked until after 9pm, catching up on family news. Sitting on the couch were three bags of books and old cooking magazines they have been saving up over time to give us. Next to the couch is sitting a new "Portal" - a device Suzy and Dennnis gave them for the sole purpose of getting together virtually every Sunday at noon. So we'll be part of that later today.
You can see the shattered screen on our cell phone.
