A trip to Victor, ID

Victor is the other side of the Tetons. From Alpine, you go toward Idaho Falls about 20 miles and then turn north on ID31 about 15 miles. Victor is a small town famous for The Emporium, where there is a soda fountain where they make huckleberry milk shakes. In season, they are fresh berries.  It's a bit early, so I think  ours were frozen. Still good though.

       Love those shakes!!

     The soda fountain

We ate our shakes near a bandstand where a man was painting this backdrop.

We drove on to Driggs, ID, just to look around. Ellen lived in Jackson 20 years ago and she was interested to see how these towns had changed. They have some, but not dramatically, she felt. Then we came back to Victor for a bit of supper. The only place was a very popular burger joint. They made an incredible burger - this was at the next table (we did not get this ):

The guy who got this tried eating it with his hands but gave up and used a fork.

From Victor we went east over the Teton pass to Wilson. Spectacular scenery!

   Coming down from Teton Pass

We stopped in Wilson at Hungry Jacks for grocerîes:

That 's me with bag in my mouth

And from there, we took the  "back way" home to Alpine, on Fall Creek Road. It bypasses Jackson and even Hoback Jct.  It's a beautiful drive, but we had forgotten how long it takes.  We thought we were lost. The road turned to gravel, got narrower and rougher. We were afraid we would just end up in a field somewhere. But it came out right where we thought it would, on Snake River Canyon Rd. Just below Hoback. A nice last 15 miles or so to Alpine.
