We have accomplished GOAL #! - to get to Santa Fe! We left Amarillo
about 9:20a.m., but then had the advantage of pretty quickly moving into
Mountain Time and gaining an hour. We went through extensive fields of
wind turbines in Texas.
Wind power in the very windy Texas panhandle .
Once crossed over into NM, we decided to get off I-40 in
Tucumcani and take Rte 104 the "back way"to Las Vegas, NM - and what a
road! We saw just three other cars in over a 100 miles.

On a beautiful, lonely road in New Mexico |
Katie texted
while we were on the road and we learned that we could meet her at the
AirBnB she and her friend, Emily, Neal and Sue (Katie's uncle and wife)
and Michael and Amy (Katie's cousin and partner) were all sharing, so we
picked up our heels and hightailed it to Santa Fe. It was great to see
Katie, but then we realized she had gotten in from her plane ride at 2
a.m., and was pretty tired, so after a short visit in which we got
caught up on her news, we let her take a nap.
We headed for central
Santa Fe and ended up spending some time inside the very unusual and
impressive NM Capitol building - especially impressive is the amount and
quality of art displayed in the corridors. Ellen was able to buy some
cards there too.

The New Mexico Capitol Building - it is based on the Zia Sun Disc symbol

Inside, there was this gallery off the main rotunda |

The Senate Chambers |

The capitol corridors are all lined with art work, mostly by New Mexican artists. This is one that Ellen was able to get a postcard of |
Then we went to the Plaza, the heart of the city, and
the museums around it. It was getting toward closing time but E got more
cards at the Museum of NM History. A successful trip!

The Old Capitol and Goverenor's Palace, now a museum |
Then we came to
our motel, the
Silver Saddle, freshened up a bit and came across the highway to
Cafe Castro, a
Mexican Restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. And very close
by.

The Cafe Castro last evening |
Our room is cozy. After supper we watched the Friday evening news.
Tomorrow at 2p.m. is the wedding and we are also invited to a
post-wedding supper. A big day!
