A Tennessee day

Wednesday we traversed the state of Tennessee, starting from Knoxville where we spent the night and then stopping in Nashville and going through Memphis. We made stops at both the Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's home, and at the country music Hall of Fame. We didn't stay to tour either of these places, but Ellen found a bonanza of postcards in the gift shops. We had a funky experience at a local barbecue place called chandlers deli, a real greasy spoon, where the ribs were very cheap but good, and got a sense of Tennessee low life. It's seemed to be a gathering place for a lonely men.

At the Hermitage, I bought a copy of Jon Meacham's biography of Andrew Jackson, and took note of this one by Steve Inskeep, about Jackson's confiscation of millions of acres of Native American land from which he then personally profited. The Donald Trump of his day.

Wednesday night was spent in Russellville, Arkansas. I'm feeling pretty good, and we are in a good position to arrive in Santa Fe Friday afternoon.
