Festival and Fair

Sunday, we went with John and Cynthia to the New World music festival in Randolph, VT. John and Cynthia have been going to this festival annually for many years. But this was our first time. It is a festival of traditional music in the Irish, Scottish and French traditions, as they are manifested in Canada mostly -  places like Cape Breton and Quebec. There were probably 15 groups, maybe 20 altogether at the festival, performing in two fairly large venues - a Music Hall and a church, and four smaller venues - three tents and a "gallery." There was lots to choose from, and you couldn't take it all in, although some bands did a repeat performance. It went on from noon until about 10 o'clock at night. I think we heard seven groups all together and of course you had to take some time out to eat. It was great music. We liked some groups better than others but they were all really good. We heard Mairi Rankin  and Eric Wright, John Doyle, Cantrip, Night Tree, Connla, La Croisee D'Antan, and Le Vent du Nord. Thank you John and Cynthia for introducing us to this festival!

Mairi Rankin and Eric Wright, fiddle and cello

                   Cantrip

Night Tree - an unusual group

               Connla

John Doyle - a great voice and demon guitarist!

Labor Day we went to the Guilford Fair.  More on that later!
