Helmut Lachenmann
The Marlboro Music Festival usually has a composer-in-residence who works with groups of musicians who perform her or his works. This year it is Helmut Lachenmann who today was working with a trio: piano, cello and clarinet, in rehearsal of his Allegro Sostenuto. Lachenmann is German, 87 years old, and despite the fact that I have never heard of him, he is a really inportant figure in contemporary music, especially in Europe. More on HL later.
