Granite hot springs

Yesterday, Ellen, Max and I went to granite hot springs, which is a swimming pool that is 10 miles off the main highway between Hoback Jct. and Pinedale. We drove up a ten-mile gravel road, which was very scenic, and was festooned with a profusion of wild flowers, parked in a parking area and then walked into the pool area. The pool is fed by natural hot springs, and is actually open year-round, but in the winter you have to ski in or go by sled or snowmobile. The water is about the temperature of bath water. On a really hot day it wouldn't be very pleasant. It was partly cloudy when we were there. The air was pleasantly cool,  but the sun was hot when it was out. I think the ideal time would be spring or fall, except then the air would feel pretty cold when you came out of the water. But we had a good time. It was pretty crowded with teen-agers at first - maybe from a near-by camp? - but they all left as a group and by later afternoon it had thinned out quite a bit.

The pool house, office, changing rooms

The setting. Picnic area in distance where we had our picnic lunch

The pool. Mostly fairly shallow with one deep area.

The pool is lined with rocks to climb on - but no jumping or diving allowed!

Max had a good time with his Nana

The stream flowing out of the pool is pretty full for this time of year.
