Shostakovich, Beethoven and Kurtag

We are back at Marlboro. We heard a Shostakovich Piano Quintet this morning, the Beethoven "Choral Fantasy" earlier this afternoon (just the orchestra - the chorus will rehearse with orchestra tomorrow). And we are about to hear a piece by Kurtag. Christian joined us this a.m., and we all had a lovely picnic lunch here outside in the shade. I got in a nice walk circumnavigating the soccer field above the auditorium. Tonight we will go to Bellows Falls to hear Susan Narucki (an old friend of Ellen's) sing Kurtag. *************
I sang with the Chorale up here at Marlboro every summer for 30 years, and could have sung the "Choral Fantasy" which is an end-of-the-Festival annual tradition, but never did. Too late now!
Above: Musicians playing a Beethocven String Quartet (from yesterday afternoon - I don't have a photo of the Shastakovich Piano Quintet). Middle: The Beethoven "Choral Fantasy" Orchestra, with Jonathsan Biss at piano. Bottom: The Kurtag Trio.
