Shirley Harris Crockett Award

Last Sunday, as a part of the service at the Guilford Community Church, we gave out two awards from the Shirley Harris Crockett Fund, which was established at the time of Shirley's death to provide scholarships and other kinds of aid for young people and adults to encoiurage and support their spiritual growth.

One award went to Molly Peters, as a scholarship for her attendance this summer at the Green Mountain Camp in Dummerston. This is not a church camp per se, but has a strong spiritual component. It will mean a lot to Molly and her family for her to be able to attend this camp. She has been active in the youth program at the Guilford Church.

Here is a photo of Molly receiving her certificate of award:

The second award went to Jeremy Kirk, who is on a path toward ordination. It will help him pay for the very expensive psychological evaluation he must undergo as a part of his being qualified for ordination. (In today's world, prospective ministers must undergo both a rigorous psychological evaluation and a criminal background check. Unheard of in my day. The intent, I am sure, is to identify people in advance who might have tendencies toward sexual abuse, and other problems). He is currently the interim minister at the First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro, and so was not able to be at the service in the morning. He will make a great pastor, I think.
